Health
United Ways fights for the health of every person in America
Being healthy is more than going to a doctor, it is being active, having a safe place to live, access to healthy foods, access to an education. When a community is unable to provide these resources, everyone feels the effects. Since 1991, the rate of increase in medical expenses has risen more than 34%. Monthly premiums for a family of four have gone from $190 in 2010 to $577 in 2017. 1
Children who have access to healthy foods, safe neighborhoods to play in, and a healthy support system tend to be healthier than children who do not. According to the 2016 National Survey of Children's Health, 31% of Kansas Children are overweight/obese. 2
